On the same day that Craig resident, Purcell Moore, was being laid to rest, the man believed to be responsible for his death, appeared in Court to face the indictable charge of murder.
The accused, Kevin Persaud, was not required to enter a plea to the charge, which stated that on December 20, at Craig on the East Bank of Demerara, he allegedly shot Moore dead.
Moore, who lived between Guyana and French Guiana, had only traveled to Guyana a few days before his death. He was cornered by three men just after 7 o’ clock in the morning as he made his way through a shortcut in the village.
He reportedly put up a fight, but was shot dead during the scuffle. His lifeless body was discovered by persons in the area moments after the men made good their escape.
Persaud was arrested not long after the incident and reportedly admitted to the crime during interrogation.
It is suspected that the murder may have been a hired killing. The accused was remanded to jail today and will make his next court appearance in the new year.
