A suspected robber dashed for cover and managed to escape lawmen after losing his gun during a gunfight with police officers.
According to the Guyana Police Force, officers on a foot patrol in the Werk-en-Rust area were confronted by an identifiable man who discharged his unlicense firearm at them, but managed to escape after he dropped the weapon as the officers returned fire.
The police report said the incident occurred around 11pm on Tuesday as the ranks were inside of the four-entrance compound of the St. Phillips Anglican Church which is located at D’Urban and Smyth Streets.
A number of persons had complained about being robbed in the same area.
The suspect was approaching the ranks from an opposite position and discharged a round at them when he realized they were all police officers.
He dropped the unlicensed .38 Special Revolver with three live matching rounds and a spent shell as he scaled the fence and escaped.
Investigations are ongoing.
