In a police statement, it is reported that the constable dropped the weapon and bolted from the scene after the young woman fell to the ground with the injury to her stomach.

A 19-year-old Albouystown woman is nursing a gunshot wound to her abdomen after she was accidentally shot by her police constable friend who stopped at her home, reportedly for a romantic visit.

The policeman fled the scene after the incident and has not been seen since.

The incident took place just around noon on Wednesday. According to reports the police officer whose identity has not been revealed, was conducting “foot patrol” with two other police ranks in the Albouystown community when he decided to stop at the woman’s house to pay her a visit.

He entered the woman’s house and reportedly mishandled his gun while making himself comfortable and the it went off.

In a police statement, it is reported that the constable dropped the weapon and bolted from the scene after the young woman fell to the ground with the injury to her stomach.  She was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital.

“The rank who is alleged to have discharged the round dropped the firearm and fled the scene and has not yet been located”, the police statement said.

The other ranks who were keeping a look out while the armed officer was in the house, are under close arrest as the investigations continue.

A resident of Albouystown told News Source that the policeman was a regular visitor to the young lady’s house.

He said “it’s a regular thing for these young policemen to take time off for nice time in this place. Is nice time he went in the house for when the gun went off and the nice time done right deh”.
