Twenty-one year old Steve Richard Bacchus who was wanted for the shooting death of Police Special Constable, Quincy Wright is in police custody after he turned himself over to law enforcement on Thursday afternoon at the Sparendaam Police Station in the company of some of his family members.
Several eyewitnesses named Steve Bacchus as the man who shot and killed the young policeman last Friday night when the two confronted each other at the home of a young woman who they were visiting in the Guyhoc Park area.
A wanted bulletin was issued for Bacchus on Monday.
According to eyewitnesses, Police officer Quincy Wright was already in the young woman’s house when Bacchus turned up and the two got into a confrontation in the yard. The confrontation became physical and during efforts by another young woman to push the two away from each other, Bacchus reportedly whipped out a gun from his waist and fired a shot which hit the policeman to his chest.
The assailant ran away from the scene and the police officer was rushed to the Georgetown hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Bacchus could find himself in court facing murder charges before the end of the week.
