According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force, at around 11pm on Monday night, five cutlass wielding masked men invaded the Tide Restaurant and Bar at La Jalousie, and relieved patrons of their money and other valuables after attacking the bar’s owner.
The Police said the 15-year-old school girl was among those who were robbed, and the armed men abducted her as they left the scene in a car. However, with the Police being alerted, the suspects were spotted after crashing the car in the Pouderoyen area. The girl was rescued by the Police and two of the suspects were arrested.
The three other suspects managed to escape.
The arrested suspects gave their names as Perciven Aaron called ‘Barban’, a 21-year-old Labourer from Thomas Street, Georgetown, and Isaiah Bowen called ‘Pranks’, a 19-year-old from Church Street, Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara.
The Police said a search on the said car was carried out in the presence of the two suspects and several of the mentioned stolen articles were found in the back seat of the vehicle.
The scene was processed by crime scene ranks, who retrieved footage from CCTV cameras affixed to the bar.
The two suspects remain in custody, as investigations continue.
