The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (DNRE) has rubbished a recent article which appeared in the Guyana Times stating that there has been a name change of the Georgetown Botanical Gardens.
The Department said no such name change has taken place.
“The Department wishes to clarify that the name of the Gardens has not changed. The Georgetown Botanical Gardens is part of Guyana’s National Protected Areas System, and currently falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, Ministry of the Presidency. The area has been identified for phased rehabilitation, with the first phase having already commenced”, a release stated.
The Georgetown City Council has been consulting with citizens for the renaming of several streets that do not have specific names, as part of Guyana’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. Persons have been suggesting a number of name changes.
