A head-on collision between a heavy duty sand truck and a canter delivery truck on the Soesdyke-Linden highway this morning has left three persons dead.
One of the dead persons has been identified as Lionel Campbell, who was the driver of the canter truck. His porter, who was at the back of the truck, also died when the truck burst into flames.
The third victim has been identified as the wife of the driver of the sand truck.
The sand truck driver, who is a foreign national, survived the accident but suffered multiple injuries. He has been hospitalised.
Police and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene of the accident, which took place in the vicinity of Loo Creek along the highway.
It is unclear what led to the collision, but with the highway under reconstruction, drivers have been encouraged to be careful as they traverse the highway that has building materials in several sections.
Investigations are ongoing.
