A couple is among three persons who are dead following a cutlass slashing incident in the Baramita, North West District.
The three dead persons have been identified as 40-year-old Joy John, her husband 38-year-old Amar Thomas and 62-year-old Tony Williams. The incident occurred on Saturday morning.
A Police statement said all three persons worked as farmers in the Aranka village in Baramita.
It is reported that on Saturday morning, while Amar Thomas was in his farm, 62-year-old Tony Williams visited his camp and got into an argument with his wife. It is unclear what triggered the argument between the two, but the Police report stated that during the row, the 62-year-old man slashed the 40-year-old woman to the neck with a cutlass.
He was confronted at the camp by the woman’s husband who was returning from the farm and the two got into an altercation after the man realised that his wife had been attacked.
During the altercation between the two men, they reportedly armed themselves with sharp objects and repeatedly stabbed each other.
Both men collapsed at the scene, with the woman’s body a short distance away.
The three bodies were discovered with multiple injuries and taken to the cottage hospital in the area where doctors pronounced them all dead. A full investigation has been launched.
