Three men who were all on remand for murder offences escaped from the Lusignan Prison last evening and that has triggered searches in several East Coast Demerara villages by the Police and Prison Authorities.
The escapees have been identified as Mark Rafino, Alex Mathias and Barnold Kennedy.
All three were charged and remanded to jail last year on allegations of murder related to three separate incidents.
Police and Prison Officers learnt of the escape late last night and an alarm was raised.
Checks were conducted around the prisons and nearby areas but those late-night searches came up empty-handed.
Investigations have so far revealed that the prisoners jumped the south eastern fence of the prison and fled into a surrounding area.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of the three men is being asked to contact 911 or the nearest Police station.
