Torture Cops to be fired

The two police officers who were fingered and charged in connection with the torture of a 15-year-old boy back in 2009 are being dismissed from their jobs.

There are reports that one of the policemen has already been fired on the request of the Minister of Public Security while the police service commission has been asked to fire the other policeman who was recently promoted by the commission.

The David Granger administration has made known its intolerance for lawmen involved in torture and other crimes.

Although the two policemen were charged, the court case fell apart after the teenager whose crutch and penis were badly burnt was a no-show in court to give evidence.

However, he moved to the court and won a civic case against the former PPP/Civic government.

The lawmen eventually got their jobs back in the Police Force and one of the officers was recently promoted.

While in opposition, the APNU and AFC called for the men to be dismissed from the force but those calls were ignored. Now in government, the coalition intends to build more public confidence in the police force and other security force.
