Over the years, the country has been featured as one of the most corrupt in the Caribbean.

There have been several recommendations over the years to fight the corruption perception that remains attached to Guyana. Those recommendations include the establishment of a public procurement commission and the integrity commission. Both Commissions are still to be fully established 8 months after the new government has been in place.

While in opposition, the apnu and afc had criticized the last government over the non functioning of the two commissions.

The government has indicated that plans are afoot to fully establish both commissions
