The Guyana Police Force has launched another investigation into allegations of assault being leveled against some of its members.
A 24-year-old Tuschen man is demanding justice after he was allegedly slapped, kicked and choked by three policemen during an arrest.
The man, Joel Patterson, explained to News Source that on Monday he was asked by his mother to babysit his two younger siblings at the family’s Tuschen home.
He said on Monday afternoon, he ventured out of the house to a nearby shop to make a purchase and while talking with some friends at the shop, he noticed a Police vehicle approaching.
“I see the Police van coming up the road, but I ain’t move because me ain’t got nothing for them. And the Police came out and told all of us to conduct ourselves for a search”, Patterson explained.
He said while he put himself in the position to be searched, he told the Policemen that he had a screwdriver in his pocket.
According to the young man, one of the officers removed the screwdriver from his pocket and told him that he was being arrested and should jump into the Police van.
“I told him I can’t do that since my two lil sisters are home alone. Next thing you know the man pelt two slap across me face for nothing and I pelt a cuff at he in return. The other two policemen then jumped on top of me and the three of them start to beat me with one of them choking me till I get blackout about two time”, he said.
Patterson said he was bundled into the Police vehicle and while being taken from the scene, one of the Policemen repeatedly kicked him to the face and threatened to shoot him.
By this time, blood was streaming down the man’s face.
Once at the station, Patterson was kept in custody until Tuesday morning and was released without any charge being filed against him.
His mother, Joylyn Hardy said the entire ordeal has left her shaken, especially since her two young daughters were left alone at home without any supervision.
She also explained to News Source that although her son bore visible injuries after the arrest, he was only taken to a hospital for medical treatment after she turned up at the station hours after and demanded that he sees a doctor.
The mother said she has since filed official complaints against the Policemen involved and has received the assurance from the Police Commissioner that a thorough probe will be completed.
Just yesterday morning, the Police Commissioner was forced to call a press conference to address another probe against serving members of the Force, who are accused of beating and burning a young man who they claimed had broken into their home.
The officers, in that case, are currently under close arrest.
