An elderly American man and a Guyanese woman have been taken into custody and will face drug trafficking charges in the new week after they were separately busted at the Cheddi Jagan Airport with more than 40 pounds of cocaine in their suitcases.
The two were both outgoing passengers on a Caribbean Airlines New York bound flight on Saturday. Though the two were not traveling together, the cocaine was found hidden in their suitcases in similar style.
Agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit found the cocaine hidden in several large ziploc bags of achar in the suitcases belonging to the man and the woman.
The Guyanese woman was found with just over 22 pounds of the drug hidden in her packs of achar while the US citizen had just over 19 pounds of the achar laced cocaine hidden in his bags.
News Source understands that a US deportee is being sought in connection with the airport bust. The probe continues.
