Two convicts sentenced to death; three others jailed over murder of phone card vendor

The sentences were handed down today by Justice Sandil Kissoon. The masterminds of the robbery and murder Mark Dhuman and Abdul Andre Azimullah were the ones sentenced to death.

Two of the five men found guilty of the 2017 shooting death of Phone Card Vendor Danian Anthony Jagdeo have been sentenced to death while the other three convicts have been sentenced to jail time.

The sentences were handed down today by Justice Sandil Kissoon.
The masterminds of the robbery and murder Mark Dhuman and Abdul Andre Azimullah were the ones sentenced to death.

Their co-accused Zahir Abdul and Shannon Batson were sentenced to life in jail and will be eligible for parole after 35 years while the fifth convict, Satesh Budhram will have to spend 17 years in jail.

Phone card vendor, Danian Jagdeo was making deliveries on the 8th February 2017 at Adventure village in Corentyne, Berbice when he was attacked and shot during the course of a robbery.

In handing down the sentence, Justice Kissoon said the robbery and murder were unthinkable and heinous acts that must never be condoned. He said the convicts showed no signs of remorse.

Before the sentences were handed down, the wife of the murdered vendor said his entire family remains broken and devastated by the death. She said it has also left her as a single mother.

Jagdeo was 35-years-old when he was murdered.
