Two friends die in East Bank Demerara motorcycle crash

Two friends, ages 24 and 20-years-old, lost their lives on Saturday morning in an accident along the Diamond Public Road on the East Bank of Demerara.

The accident took place around 4:10 am on Saturday morning, and the two men who died have been identified as Philbert Charles and Chris Daniels.

A Police report of the incident indicated that 24-year-old Philbert Charles was riding his motorcycle, with his friend, Chris Daniels as the pillion rider, when he suddenly lost control of the bike and slammed into a utility pole. Both men were pitched onto the roadway.

Emergency Medical Services were summoned and the two youths were rushed to the Diamond Hospital. On arrival, doctors pronounced the bike rider, Philbert Charles, dead on arrival. However, the pillion rider was in an unconscious state. Once stabilized, he was transferred to the Georgetown Hospital, however, he died there while receiving medical care.

The Police said the two men were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash. It is suspected that they both suffered severe head injuries. The Police investigators have also indicated that the motorcycle was being driven at a fast rate at the time of the crash.

Post mortem examinations are to be performed this week on the bodies of the two young men.
