Two Kaieteur News security guards remanded for murder of homeless man

Two security guards who were attached to Kaieteur News were this morning charged and remanded to jail for murder over the beating death of a 58-year-old homeless man.

The two security guards, Yan Licorish and Tony Waldron were not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge when they appeared before the Chief Magistrate this morning.

They are accused of beating Mohabir Singh, which resulted in his death.

The security guards were arrested last week after the lifeless body of Singh was found outside the Saffon Street location for the newspaper.

The two denied any wrongdoing but a post mortem examination found that the man died from a number of injuries associated with blunt trauma to the head.

The body also carried marks of violence that were found to be associated with a beating. Police investigators also reviewed recorded surveillance video from CCTV cameras in the area.

The two security guards will remain in jail until their next Court appearance in April.
