Two prison officers attached to the Lusignan jail have been arrested following the discovery of a quantity of marijuana in a cupboard in the Barracks room at the prison facility.
The arrests were made during a search by senior prison officials on Wednesday night.
According to a Police statement, the two officers were immediately held following the discovery of two large Ziploc bags containing marijuana seeds and stems.
Both officers are in their 30’s. They will remain under close arrest until the completion of the investigation. Charges could be laid as early as next week.
The Prison Service has been facing the problem of smuggling of drugs and other illegal items into the prisons. A number of prison officers have in the past lost their jobs and jailed for breaches of security at the prison.
