Two women prisoners who were serving time for threatening language and larceny will get to go home to their families for the holidays.
The two women, 19-year-old Sherryann Marks and 33-year-old Simone Williams have been pardoned by President David Granger in keeping with the powers given to him by the Constitution of Guyana.
The Public Security Ministry in a statement said the pardons will take effect on the 23rd December.
Both women would have already served a portion of their sentences.
In the past years, the President has been pardoning women who were serving time for petty offences, once they would have served out a period of their sentences. He has said those pardoned should enjoy the holidays at home.
