A 28-year-old man from Unity, Mahaica on the East Coast of Demerara has been taken into custody and will face charges connected to the death of his cousin.
35-year-old Unity businessman, Arvin Dipchand died on Tuesday night after being beaten to death by his own cousin.
The two men reportedly had a misunderstanding and the businessman accused the cousin of stealing from him. During the row, the younger cousin armed himself with a hammer and pelted Dipchand who fell to the ground.
While on the ground, the cousin grabbed a piece of wood and repeatedly lashed Dipchand to the head and body.
The businessman attempted to run away from the cousin but collapsed as he was approaching his car. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead by Doctors.
The cousin has since been taken into custody after being held by members of the Community Policing group. He is expected to be charged within days.
