The Guyana Police Force is investigating another murder of a miner in the interior district of Cuyuni in Region 7.
According to the police, 38-year-old Royston Greenidge of Kuru Kuru on the Linden Soesdyke Highway was beaten to death with a piece of wood by another miner on Tuesday at an area called Far Back in Cuyuni, Region 7.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations department reported that “investigations have revealed that Royston Greenidge and another man had an argument during which he was lashed about his head and other parts of the body with a piece of wood. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bartica Hospital.
Police investigators are looking for the suspect in the case. The man reportedly went into hiding after the incident.
Over the past year, there has been an upsurge of murders and violent crimes in the mining communities. The Miners Association and other groups have called for more police presence in the areas.
