Longtime member of the People’s National Congress Reform, Vanessa Kissoon, has tendered her resignation from the party, citing personal reasons.
Speaking briefly with News Source this afternoon, Ms. Kissoon said she would not make any comment at this time on her resignation. She also stated that she does not have any plans to join any other political party.
“I did tender my resignation…at this point, I would want to leave it at that, and I will, once I think its necessary, make a public thing on it, but at this moment I would prefer to leave it as it is for now”, Kissoon told News Source.
Kissoon currently sits on the Linden Mayor and Town Council as a Constituency Councillor representing A Partnership for National Unity. The PNC is the largest party in the APNU.
News Source understands that Kissoon’s resignation might have been triggered by an incident last week when she received a hostile welcome from some party supporters during a visit to the PNC’s Congress Place headquarters for an event. She said she would not comment on that issue.
It was Kissoon’s first return to Congress Place since she made sexual harassment accusations against Party Leader, Aubrey Norton. The allegations were denied by Norton, and a planned probe by Elders of the party never materialized.
The allegations were made by Kissoon in the run up to the last PNC Reform Congress in 2024 as Norton was seeking re-election. He easily won re-election as all of his competitors withdrew from the race for Party Leader, citing concerns about the electoral process and membership registrations.
Kissoon, who is also a former Member of Parliament for the APNU, was suspended from the PNC Reform in 2014 following a verbal confrontation between her and then Party General Secretary, the late Oscar Clarke. That suspension remained in place until 2021 when it was overturned by the Central Executive Committee of the PNC Reform, following a motion that was presented by party member Gary Best and seconded by Aubrey Norton.
