Visiting Guyanese stabbed to death during wedding house row

A homecoming that should have been filled with happiness has turned into sorrow following the stabbing death of a 21-year-old overseas-based Guyanese who was home for a wedding.

The dead young man was identified as Lakhan Chatterpal who lived in Ohio, USA.

The incident took place at Crabwood Creek in the Upper Corentyne region in the early morning hours today.

Chatterpal who returned to Guyana to attend his brother’s wedding reportedly got into a row with a group of men outside a wedding function early this morning.

The group of men was not invited to the event and they were not known to family members, so along with other relatives, the visiting young man told the men to leave.

As the men were leaving, they attempted to damage a car and that got the family members involved in a row and scuffle that only ended when the youth was stabbed and fell to the ground.

He was rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Two of the suspects have since been arrested.
