VP Jagdeo cites “unprecedented” development as PPP celebrates 4 years in office

As the People’s Progressive Party Civic is preparing to celebrate four years in office on Friday, the party’s General Secretary, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo today boasted that ‘unprecedented’ development has taken place in every sector and every region since his party retook the seat of Government.

Mr. Jagdeo told reporters that the country is in a different place from four years ago, and he is pleased with all that has been taking place.

“I am very pleased about these four years and a lot that we have worked on in the putting together in the last four years will yield the benefits in the future. So, the benefits don’t come immediately, with the construction that is going on we have more jobs for people and when these seven new hotels come on stream, three thousand more jobs will be created,” the Vice President noted.

Sidestepping the issue of the increase in the cost of living and ongoing complaints about corruption in Government, Mr. Jagdeo when one looks at the infrastructural development taking place, and the growth in the education and health sectors, there could be no doubt that progress is taking place across the country.

“Healthcare, unprecedented levels, we have laid out a plan, put together the twelve new hospitals, had the feasibility studies done, the design work has practically been done and many of them are under construction. This is in the short period that we have been in office—the last two years because the first two years we couldn’t do much work because of COVID,” Mr. Jagdeo stated.

He said the impact of the Government’s actions will be felt for years to come.

“Now when you look at where Guyana is and its roaring and its growing at a rapid pace, you see a level of dynamism that is unmatched anywhere in the world in our economy, you couldn’t believe that just two short years back, we were in a situation where we didn’t know what would happen around the world or in this country,” Mr. Jagdeo stated.

The Vice President also said the PPP Civic administration has put several systems in place to ensure more transparency in Government.
