West Bank Demerara man gunned down during home invasion

A Westminster, West Bank Demerara man was shot to death this morning as he chased after two men who had invaded his home and attacked him and his family. Family members identified the dead man as Kenneth Jairam Ramkishan, who worked as a building contractor.

According to family members, just after 3 o’clock this morning, two armed men gained access to their home through a window at the back of the house and attacked the man and his wife in their bed.

“We were asleep and I just feel somebody shaking me, and from shaking me they tell me shut yuh effin mouth, and don’t speak. And they lift me, and I start to scream. And while I screaming and screaming, me husband wake up, and I get a lash and I didn’t even know that I get a lash”, the injured wife, Tajewantie Harripersaud recounted.

The grieving woman said she was left confused and started to scream for her son. However, when she looked outside, the son was already being held on the ground at gunpoint. The son suffered a number of injuries.

“I keep hollering and hollering and me husband and them start to struggle in the bedroom and they ran out. And me husband run behind them. He picked up a cutlass and started to run behind them, and I hear a sound so I keep running towards me husband and when I look, I see he on the ground and when I grab he, all I see is blood”, Ms. Ramkishan recounted.

She said six months ago, the family was also attacked and robbed in their home in the wee hours of another Sunday morning. The case is currently before the Court. The woman explained that two weeks ago during the trial for the first robbery, one of the men on trial started to issue threats against her, since she had identified him as one of the robbers.

However, in relation to this morning’s attack, which left her husband dead, said said she was unable to identify any of the two men since lights were not on in the house. The attackers managed to escape with two cellphones belonging to the family.

A brother of the murdered man, told reporters that the family needs justice. He said the Police have been dragging their feet on the first investigation and took a long time to respond to this morning’s incident, which claimed the life of his brother.

They are calling for a full and detailed investigation.
