West Demerara businessman charged over theft of construction equipment from East Bank housing sites

Police investigators have charged a 26-year-old West Demerara businessman who is accused of carting off millions of dollars worth of construction equipment from various storage bonds on the East Bank of Demerara.

The businessman, Devindra Moteeram, was slapped with several ‘break and enter and larceny’ charges.

In one case, he is accused of breaking into a construction company’s storage container at Prospect on the East Bank Demerara, and carting off windows, electric saws, paint and other items.

In another case, Moteeram is accused of breaking into a container storage bond and making off with two generators.

He is also accused of breaking into storage facilities of a number of persons who have their homes under construction and carting off their construction equipment and material, including water pumps, drilling machines, compacters and welding equipment.

During his Court appearance, the man entered not guilty pleas to all of the charges. He was remanded to jail by the presiding Magistrate.
