The 47-year-old man appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates' Court and pleaded not guilty to the offence.

West Demerara businessman remanded over marijuana bust in barrel

West Coast Demerara businessman, Rayan Joseph appeared in Court today and was charged for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The 47-year-old man appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the offence.

He was remanded to jail and will have to make his next Court appearance on the 25th January.

The charge stemmed from the discovery of more than 9 pounds of marijuana at the man’s Crane home. The marijuana was found stashed in the bottom of a barrel and several marijuana plants were also found in his backyard.

The man and his wife were initially arrested but a decision was taken to file charges against the businessman only.
