The We Invest in Nationhood party, which is headed by sanctioned billionaire businessman, Azruddin Mohamed, has hired the services of a US lobbying firm to engage US legislators and US businesses in an effort to develop and build a relationship.
In filings with the US Justice Department, the LGS lobbying firm, which is based in Wyoming and headed by a former aide to former US President George W. Bush, stated that it has received advanced payments of US$250,000 for its work for the WIN party.
In the Justice Department filings, it was stated that the firm will advise the foreign principal, which would be the WIN party, in developing and cultivating its relationships within the United States government and private sector.
The lobbying firm is expected to assist the opposition party with the preparation and dissemination of information including documents to legislators in the United States.
The WIN party emerged as Guyana’s main opposition party following the September 2025 elections. The party’s leader, Azruddin Mohamed, was recently elected as the Opposition Leader, which is a constitutional position.
Mr. Mohamed, and his father Nazar Mohamed, were both sanctioned by the US Government on allegations of money laundering and tax evasion. A Government Permanent Secretary, Mae Thomas, was also sanctioned, over her alleged close ties and facilitation of the Mohameds.
Last October, the US made an extradition request for the Mohameds after a Florida Grand Jury handed down an 11 count indictment, accusing the father and son of mail and wire fraud, money laundering and tax evasion, related to gold exports from Guyana.
The Mohameds are currently before the local Courts fighting the extradition request.
