Yarrowkabra farmer remanded to jail over stabbing death of peacemaker

A 40-year-old farmer from Yarrokabra on the Linden Soesdyke highway was today charged and remanded to jail for the murder of a 19-year-old man.

The accused, Anthony Jones, appeared in Court and was not required to enter a plea to the murder charge. He is accused of stabbing Nyron Vyphuis to death after the youth sought to prevent him from beating his wife.

The Court heard that on October 13, the accused, Anthony Jones, and his wife were involved in a heated argument. The man became abusive to the woman and upon seeing that, the youth, Nyron Vyphuis decided to intervene and block the man from attacking the woman.

In response, it is alleged that the accused left the scene and returned with an ax. However, the weapon was taken away from him.  It was at that stage that he armed himself with a knife and attacked the youth, stabbing him several times.

The injured peacemaker was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

In Court today, the accused did not have much to say as the charge was read. He was remanded until later this month.
