An Accounts Clerk who was attached to a construction company was on Thursday charged with embezzling $2 million from the company.

27-year-old Rabindranauth Rambajue appeared in Court and was remanded to jail on the embezzlement charge.

The Court was told that he was arrested as he attempted to board a flight to leave Guyana a few days ago.

The Prosecution’s case is that in August last year, the clerk embezzled the $2 million from his employer, Ameer Amand Construction company.

According to the Prosecution’s case, the man was given a cheque for $2 million in his own name for him to use the money to pay workers and cover various expenses at the company in the absence of the manager.

The youth cashed the cheque and was not seen again until his arrest recently. The Prosecutor objected to bail and explained to the judge that it is clear that the accused was already attempting to flee the country.

The Magistrate did not offer bail and remanded the man to prison until the matter comes up again in the new month.
