The Ministry of Housing’s Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) has launched its Foundation Programme in Region Three, giving the first boost to home ownership for persons allocated house lots in the Leonora and Meten-Meer-Zorg Housing Schemes.
The programme is designed to assist allottees in constructing their homes by offering standardized foundation options that support timely development of their allocated lots and increase occupancy within housing schemes.
Additionally, the programme is designed to encourage timely development of allocated house lots and to improve access to affordable home ownership for low- and middle-income families.
“Under the initiative, beneficiaries will have access to foundation designs in 400 sq. ft., 600 sq. ft., and 950 sq. ft. configurations, creating a solid starting point for future home construction while advancing the Government’s commitment to expanding affordable housing opportunities for Guyanese families. Over the coming weeks, the initiative will be extended to persons who have been allocated lots in other schemes across the country,” the Ministry explained.

The programme, according to the Ministry, is to supplement Government’s steel and cement initiatives and will give home builders the option to choose foundation type based on their individual situation.
The Ministry explained that a one-bedroom, 400-square-foot foundation will cost $600,000 which is intended for low-income earners while a two-bedroom, 600-square-foot foundation will cost $800,000, in addition to the three-bedroom, 950-square-foot foundation which will cost $900,000 for the middle income.
The launch of the initiative was led by the Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, alongside the Minister within the Ministry, Hon. Vanessa Benn, the Chief Executive Officer of CH&PA, Dr Martin Pertab.
