A Canadian man is expected to face a Magistrate before the end of this week after he was busted at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with just over five pounds of cocaine stashed in his suitcase.
According to the Police, the Canadian was an outgoing passenger on a Caribbean Airlines flight to Toronto when Police ranks at the airport conducted a search of his baggage and found the cocaine stashed in one of his suitcases.
Police investigators are now examining the man’s travel records and all of his ties to Guyana and the people and places he visited while in the country.
The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit and the Guyana Police Force have been stepping up their monitoring at the Cheddi Jagan following a number of embarrassing drug busts overseas that were linked to Guyana with the drug mules being able to beat the security system at the local airport.
