A man who was getting ready to board a Caribbean Airlines flight to New York was busted at the Cheddi Jagan Airport, Timehri on Thursday morning with a large quantity of cocaine stashed in the false sides of his suitcases.
The 41-year-old man is a Guyanese national and the holder of a Non Immigrant visitor’s visa to the United States. He was taken into custody by agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit after the bust was made at the airport.
He could face the court on drug trafficking charges before the end of the week.
The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit and the Guyana Police Force have been stepping up their monitoring of persons travelling out of the Cheddi Jagan airport as there appears to be increased efforts to get the cocaine out of Guyana.
