Guyanese man disowns then owns drug laden bags at JFK

A Guyanese man who traveled to New York on a Fly Jamaica flight from Guyana via Kingston, Jamaica has been charged with drug trafficking and has been offered bail in the sum of US$150,000.

The man, Samuel Henry arrived last Monday at New York’s JFK Airport and was about to make his way out of the airport without any luggage when he was questioned by security and customs agents. At first he told the agents that he had not traveled with any bags and that his father had flown in with his bags the day before.

According to court documents, when the agents began questioning him about his father and asked for his father’s contact information in the U.S, Henry became nervous. At that stage, the agents contacted the Fly Jamaica desk at the airport and inquired whether the man had traveled with any luggage. The Fly Jamaica agents provided information about two bags that were checked in by the man in Guyana and that arrived on the flight with him in New York.

The bags were pulled from the baggage claim area and at that stage, Henry admitted that the bags and its contents belonged to him. The bags carried his name. When agents opened the bags, they found over 10 pounds of marijuana and 26 pounds of cocaine in 16 packets.

The Guyanese man was arrested and charged.

News Source understands that investigators believe the man may have gotten instructions from his accomplices to leave the bags at the airport to be picked up by someone else who may be working at the same airport. There are also reports that the U.S agents may have been tipped off by their counterparts in Guyana about the possibility of the man being a drug mule.
