Students and teachers escape as school bus burst into flames

Close to 50 students of the Cotton Tree Primary School and their teachers along with the driver of a school bus were able to escape unhurt when the bus they were heading home in burst into flames at Mahaica on the East Coast of Demerara.

The students were heading back home after a day touring the capital city. The incident occurred just around 5:30 on Thursday afternoon.

News Source understands that smoke was seen coming from the engine of the bus and the drive immediately pulled over and raised an alarm. Along with the teachers, he was able to get the children off the bus.

Moments after they had all escaped, the entire bus burst into flames. An investigation is underway.
