British Airways has resolved the issue that left passengers stranded in Guyana and St. Lucia for almost four days. The airline returned to its schedule service last evening and also transferred some passengers to chartered flights home to Guyana from St. Lucia.
Scores of passengers were left stranded in Guyana and St. Lucia since Monday after the airline claimed a technical issue with its aircraft. Although the passengers were accommodated during the ordeal in the case of those in St. Lucia, they complained that there was no information shared with them and they kept going to the airport and turned away day after day.
In Guyana, the situation was similar, but the passengers who were stranded here eventually got to leave last evening.
In a statement last evening, the Ministry of Public Works in Guyana announced that the airline’s service had returned to a state of normalcy and it expressed its gratitude to the airline for addressing the issue, while thanking passengers for their patience and understanding.
British Airways has no office in Guyana, and many passengers complained that the situation over the past few days has highlighted the need for an office to be in Guyana and for the sharing of information in a timely manner.
