The Head of Guyana Police Force’s Narcotics Branch, Woman Deputy Police Superintendent, Feona Fredericks, was named and awarded as the Force’s Best Cop for the year 2025.
She received the award for her and her team’s role in intercepting and destroying large amounts of cannabis and cannabis fields during the year.
Fredericks led 12 operations this year where large amount of cannabis were intercepted and destroyed, firearms seized, and persons arrested.
The Force’s Criminal Investigation Department once again dominated the Police Force’s award ceremony, and while all ranks were commended for their performances, Home Affairs Minister, Oneidge Walrond, told the Police ranks that their work has just started.
She said she envisions a Police Force that is community focused and professional.
“I urge every Officer to recommit to the solemn oath, Guyana is changing rapidly and policing must evolve with equal speed. Our force must remain adaptable, professional, clear, community focus and trusted. Let the coming year be defined by integrity, accountability and service. Together, let us strengthen the police force worthy of the nation we are building,” Walrond said.
Minister Walrond said while the Force recorded many successes this year, it also recorded unprecedented challenges, where evolving crimes and criminal networks are challenging current policing strategies.
“Some criminal networks are more organized, more adaptive and at times more emboldened. These realities demand a police force that is modern, well-equipped, technology driven and unwavering in its professionalism. Yet, despite these pressures, you have remained on the frontline protecting life and property, responding to emergencies, supporting victims and maintaining stability across all ten regions,” Ms. Walrond said.
Walrond said the year has been historic in terms of investments in the Guyana Police Force and policing in general, highlighting the infrastructural and other developments that the Force has undergone.
Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken stated that the Force continues to invest in its Ranks, noting that some 3,510 Police Ranks were promoted this year based on merit, while 1,961 ranks received scholarships and sponsorship from the Force.
