Two persons died tragically early this morning in a smash-up at the Mandela Avenue Roundabout. One other person remains in a critical condition.
The accident occurred at around 1:50 this morning. The two dead persons have been identified as Kenneth Johnson, who was the driver of the car, and 15-year-old Kelly Johnson.
The identify of the injured survivor is still to be confirmed.
According to reports, Kenneth Johnson was driving his motor car at a fast rate west along Aubrey Barker Road towards the Mandela Avenue Roundabout. Surveillance video recordings from the area showed the driver losing control of the vehicle as he attempted to negotiate a left turn onto the Mandela Avenue to Eccles Road.
The car slammed into the concrete median and flipped over. At least one of the occupants appeared to have been pitched from the vehicle. Persons who were in the area at the time rushed to the assistance of the injured and contacted emergency services. Emergency services were forced to use heavy duty tools to cut through the vehicle to get to the victims.
