West Demerara man remanded to prison for murder of Mother

A 24-year-old mason from Cornelia Ida on the West Coast of Demerara was charged and remanded to jail today over the murder of his mother.

The accused, Greedesh Ramkissoon, appeared at the Leonora Magistrates’ Court this morning where the indictable charge was read to him. He was not required to enter a plea. He is accused of brutally murdering his own mother, Surujdai Kahrui, last Thursday.

Once the charge was read to the accused and initial details of the charge were unveiled in the Court, the Magistrate ordered the 24-year-old man remanded.

He will return to the Court later this month for the continuation of the case.

Last Thursday night, Police investigators were summoned to the home of Surujdai Kahrui after another son found her lifeless body in the house with multiple stab and chop wounds. The suspect was in the house also at the time of the discovery of the mother’s body.

The man was taken into custody as neighbours and family members were left shocked at what had taken place in the house.

It is unclear what triggered the deadly attack.
