The Guyana Police Force is praising co-operation between citizens and the Police Force and believes that cooperation has resulted in the seizure of a high-powered weapon and several matching rounds of ammunition in Linden.
Police investigators say they were able to retrieve a high powered AK 47 Rifle, two magazines and fifteen rounds of matching ammunition, fifteen .38 live rounds, thirty-nine 9mm live rounds and twenty-one .223 live rounds and a magazine.
According to the Police, “the actions of a dutiful citizen ought to be commended.”
According to reports, the 42-year-old citizen was engaged in the process of “house cleaning” when he saw a haversack behind a wardrobe in the Constabulary Compound, Linden house.
On closer examination, he discovered the firearm and ammunition, after which he rushed to the police station and informed ranks there.
A police party responded and took possession of the cache.
The house is owned by persons residing overseas and other persons were renting the home prior to the discovery.
Investigations are continuing.
