Canadian woman remanded to jail after allegedly busted with heroin at local airport

A Canadian teen, who was recently nabbed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with heroin, made her first appearance in Court today and was remanded to prison.

19-Year-Old, Yuniyka Bovell, stood before Chief Magistrate Ann Mclennan and denied the allegation of drug trafficking.

The Court heard that on the 8th October at the Cheddi Jagan Airport, the young woman was busted with over three pounds of heroin.

However, the Attorney representing the teen’s interest, told the Court that his client had no knowledge of illegal item and he claims that the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit was still to prove that it really was heroin that it found.

The Attorney claimed recently lost a baby and currently lives with her reputed husband and his parents. He made an application for bail and stated that the accused was willing to lodge her passport with the court.

The Chief Magistrate found no special reason for the granting of bail and remanded the young woman until the 24th October, when the case will come up again.
