In the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court today, a Leopold Street man was remanded to prison for robbery under arms.
The accused was shot by the Police during their efforts to arrest him and he had to be helped in and out of the courtroom by police officers today.
According to the prosecutor, it was on the 29th June, 2017 that the accused, 27-Year-Old Akeem Rajkumar, armed himself with a handgun and robbed Dexter France of several of his belongings, which included a grey backpack, Timberland shoes, a gold chain and several pieces of clothing. The items totaled $194,000.
Additionally, Akeem was charged for having 50 grams of marijuana in his possession.
After the robbery incident was reported and the accused was being arrested, officers claimed that he attempted to reach for the gun of the arresting rank.
He was shot in the leg.
The accused who lives in Leopold Street, has several other robbery matters in the Court and has been fingered in a number of other similar matters that are under investigation.
Bail was refused and the accused will make his next court appearance on the 26th July, 2017.
