Man wanted for yesterday’s shooting death provides documentation showing he has been in US since June; Calls Police reckless for issuing bulletin

Moments after the Guyana Police Force issued a wanted bulletin for a South Ruimveldt resident in connection with yesterday’s shooting death of a bystander in West Ruimveldt, the man contacted News Source to reveal that he has been in the United States since the end of June and had nothing to do with the incident in West Ruimveldt.

This afternoon, the Police issued a wanted bulletin for 33-year-old Majesty Fernandes, explaining that he is wanted for questioning about the murder of Dexter Horsham.

In a WhatsApp video interview with News Source from New York, Fernandes said he has been in the United States since the 27th June and therefore could not have committed a crime that took place on the 10th August.

He provided his passport information showing that he departed Guyana on a Jet Blue flight on the 27th June and arrived in the United States on the same date. He also provided a copy of his boarding pass and his travel itinerary. The confused and concerned man said if the Police Force had conducted a search of its own immigration records before issuing the bulletin, it would have proven that he could not have committed the crime, for which he is wanted for.

Bulletin issued by Police

“I find that bulletin irresponsible and I find it reckless because no proper investigation was not done, and so too align me and produce this wanted bulletin while I am here (in New York), it is clear that I am in a whole different jurisdiction for almost two months and I find it very ridiculous”, he said.

News Source repeatedly questioned the Police Public Relations Office about the bulletin. A senior official said the bulletin will stand since the man is “just wanted for questioning in relation to the crime”. The official said a vehicle that is registered in the man’s name was used during the commission of the confrontation that led to the shooting death. According to the official, the investigators want to know who was driving the vehicle at the time, and since they could not make contact with the registered owner, they opted to issue the wanted bulletin to alert him that investigators wanted to speak to him.

Fernandes maintains that the Police actions were reckless and there were no efforts to make any contact with him before the wanted bulletin was issued.
