Suspected bandit shot dead after attempted robbery

A suspected bandit was shot dead this morning at the corner of King Street and North Road. His accomplice was arrested by the Police at the same area.

According to information, the two young men reportedly attempted to snatch a phone from a woman in the busy area while riding their motorbike, and an undercover Policeman who was nearby and witnessed the robbery attempt opened fire on them.

The Guyana Police Force said the dead man has been identified as 25-year-old Abendego Trotman, who was known to law enforcement.

The entire area was blocked off by investigators as the man’s lifeless body laid on the roadway for over an hour. His family members who later arrived at the scene, were prevented from seeing the body.

Crime investigators were seen taking measurements and prints and picking up spent shells.

Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn also visited the scene and spoke to the senior investigators on duty.

The accomplice remains in custody as the police investigations continue.
