MoneyGram Metal safes stolen during late night break-in at Andrews Supermarket

Bandits were able to cart off an undisclosed sum of money in a late night break-in at Andrews Supermarket at Robb and Lights Street in Georgetown.

A statement from the Guyana Police Force said two metal safes belonging to MoneyGram, which operates an outlet in the building, and a quantity of cash from the cash registers were stolen during break-in.

There are no suspects at this time, the police reported.

The store manager told investigators that he was the last to leave the business place after locking it down at around 10pm on Wednesday.

He said upon his return to the building this morning, his attention was immediately drawn to the doors to the storage bond being opened.

Upon further investigation, the Police said the store manager reported that a section of the roof to the storage bond had been cut open. He said a check in the supermarket found cash registers damaged and dumped on the floor. All of the cash registers were emptied of an undisclosed sum of cash.

The Police said checks to the second floor of the building where the MoneyGram outlet is located revealed two metal safes that contained a large sum of cash missing. The manager said the safes were secured in the MoneyGram office.

Police investigators visited the scene of the crime and interviewed a number of persons in the area. The Police also explained that there were no security officers attached to the business place.

The investigations are ongoing.
