Bandits snatch $3 Million from Akbar Auto Sales

Two bandits pulled off a barefaced robbery on Monday afternoon at the Akbar Auto Sales and Furniture Store on North Road, Bourda in Georgetown.

Three staff members were held at gunpoint in the accounts department of the store and forced to hand over $3 Million in cash. The robbery took place close to 3 pm as the business place was preparing to wrap up its operations for the day.

The Accounts department is located on the 3rd floor of the three story building. The furniture department is located on the ground floor. The middle flat is used for records keeping and storage.

While the robbery was taking place on the 3rd floor, staff members and security on the ground floor were unaware of what was happening above their heads.

The two bandits reportedly walked into the store and all the way to the top floor which also houses the cashier department, as if they were regular customers. Once in the accounts department, the staff members were held at gunpoint. A young accountant was badly beaten to his head and left bloodied as the men demanded all of the money.

Terrified and shocked staff members handed over the money. The men then easily made their way down the stairs between the 3 floors and calmly walked out of the building. It was only after they left, that the staffers on the third floor raised an alarm and by that time, the men had already made good their escape.

Police investigators and a number of mobile patrols rushed to the business place which is located in the heart of the busy Bourda shopping area.  Security cameras were being reviewed. The two men have been described as short and medium in build and of African descent. They were both wearing light coloured shirts. One was wearing a plaid shirt.

The manager of the company said he was shocked with what took place. He said he was not at his business place at the time. News Source was also told that thieves struck at the company’s Regent Street office on Sunday night carting off a number of items.

Police investigators are probing the incident.
