The Guyana Prison Service and the Police are investigating the death of a 44-year-old remand prisoner inside the Lusignan prison.

The lifeless body of Roger Samuels of Parfait Harmony was found in a cell at the prison on Sunday morning.  The man was remanded to jail on Friday for the alleged theft of a motor car.

In its statement, the Prison Service revealed that Samuels was admitted to the Prison on Friday with multiple injuries.

He reportedly suffered those injuries at the hands of members of the public before he was handed over to the Police on the larceny allegations.

It’s unclear whether he suffered any additional injuries since being admitted to the prison.
