Two facing Court for murder of transgender sex worker

Two Georgetown men are facing charges in relation to the murder of transgender sex worker, Shawn Anthony Simon.

In Court today, 31-year-old Meadowbrook Gardens resident, Akeem Fraser was charge and remanded to jail for the murder of the sex worker.

His co-accused, 23-year-old Shaggy Mohammed from East Ruimveldt did not make his Court appearance today, as he is already behind bars on a recent robbery charge. He is expected to face the Courts next week.

The charges filed against the two men state that on the 11th July at King Street, Georgetown, they shot and killed sex worker, Shawn Anthony Simon.

Simon was working in the area when a dark coloured car pulled up and opened fire as the sex worker approached. The sex worker was shot multiple times to the body.

Eyewitnesses said the car sped away from the scene, but video recordings of the incident were captured by a number of CCTV cameras in the area. A motive for the drive-by murder remains unclear.

The Court matter continues next week.
