Police investigators have launched a probe into the murder of a transgender commercial sex worker who was shot dead late last evening while plying her “sex trade” in the Carmichael Street area.
The 20-year-old sex worker has been identified as Noel Wilson Luthers aka Nephi.
According to reports, Luthers was involved in a transaction with a man just after 11:00pm when the two got into a heated argument and the man whipped out a firearm and shot Luthers dead.
Other sex workers who were in the area at the time reportedly rushed to the scene as the assailant sped away in a motor car.
Luthers was taken to the Georgetown Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. Up to this morning, police sources said no family member had appeared at the hospital to positively identify the body.
Just two days ago, members of the Transgender community held a candle light vigil to mark the first anniversary of the stabbing death of two transgender sex workers who were brutally killed by the former male lover of another transgender sex worker during a jealous rage.
In a statement this morning, the Guyana Transgender United group said it is saddened and shocked “to hear this morning that another member has been gunned down.”
