
Two residents of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo lost their lives tragically early this morning after a speeding car slammed into them along the Tuschen Public Road.
The victims have been identified as 54-year-old Yvette Daniels and 48-year-old Vishundat Mohabir.
According to a Police report, a motorcar bearing registration number PKK 9890 was being driven at a fast rate along the Tuschen Public road when the driver, 29-year-old Vickash Dhunao, slammed into the two pedestrians as they were crossing the road.
The incident took place just after 2am.
The police report stated that the impact of the collision flung the two pedestrians into the air before they fell onto the road surface, receiving multiple injuries to their bodies.
After hitting the pedestrians, the speeding car slammed into a parked car at the side of the roadway before coming to a stop. The Police said the driver fled the scene but was later arrested.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by an emergency medical team that was summoned.
The Police said a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and traces of alcohol was detected.
The driver is presently in custody assisting with the investigation, the Police said.
