Police investigators are probing the death of a 13-year-old North West District, Region One boy, and the hospitalisation of his family members after they all consumed a homemade drink that is suspected to have been poisonous.

The dead teen has been identified as Rondel Henry. His mother and father along with his three siblings remain hospitalized in a serious condition.

A police report said that on Sunday afternoon, the family members started experiencing bouts of diarrhea after they consumed a locally made liquid product.

By Monday afternoon, the oldest child, Rondel Henry became motionless and was rushed to the Mabaruma Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The other family members were taken to the same hospital where doctors admitted all of them for critical care.

Environmental and health officers have since visited the family’s home for clues about the deadly drink, but did not find any container or anything related to the poisonous drink.

Investigations are ongoing.
